Head Coach: DeShawn Henry

Coach Henry enters his 12th year as the Trailblazers Head Coach and is credited with ten winning seasons. He continues to diligently build a program that is dedicated to developing successful young men. He is well known for fostering strong player relations and stressing the importance of academic excellence for his student athletes on and off the court.  Coach Henry's strengths include: organization and supervision of the Durango’s boys basketball program, player development, student athlete academic supervision, cultivating positive professional relationships, fundraising, and aiding players in the college recruiting process. Coach Henry is an active member of several national coaches associations: National Federation of High School Coaches, and National Association of Basketball Coaches. Coach Henry also serves as a consultant to several basketball companies and youth basketball programs nationwide. During the off-season, Coach Henry conscientiously works with his players academically and also coaches Track and Field at Durango High School. In the summer months, he attends various basketball camps, clinics, and tournaments throughout the country. He was awarded Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2016. Coach Henry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from UNLV and a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from University of Phoenix. Coach Henry has been a School Counselor at Durango High School since 2007.


Assstant Coach: Bjorn Berg

Bjorn Berg begins his 11th season coaching at Durango, his tenth under Coach Henry.  Coach Berg hails from Minneapolis, and went on to play basketball at North Park University in Chicago, Illinois.  His experiences at the college level make him instrumental in developing our players’ skills and his dedication to the game and to the team make him a great fit for Durango Basketball.  At North Park, Berg earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Counseling. Coach Berg is a Physical Education teacher at Rogers elementary school. He is also the founder and director of the Desert Reign Foundation, which combats childhood obesity throughout the Las Vegas Valley.


Assstant Coach: James Stein

Coach Stein begins his 12th season as an assistant coach at Durango and his seventeenth on Henry's staff. His ability to relate well with players and his knowledge of the game make him a valuable asset to the Durango family. Coach Stein is an excellent role model for the young men on the team, and they have great respect for him. His duties include game planning, practice preparation, travel supervision, fund-raising, as well as maintaining all social media. Stein holds a mechanical engineer degree from UNLV and works locally as an industrial engineer.


Assistant Coach: Redell Moore

Coach Moore begins his sixth season as a Trailblazer. As former college student-athlete and having a son who played college basketball, Coach Moore knows what it takes to be successful on the court and in the classroom. His experience and patience is instrumental in developing our young men into gentlemen. 


Assstant Coach: Jason Metsker

This marks Coach Metsker’s fourth year as member of our Trailblazer coaching family. As our freshman coach, he is vital to the development of our ninth grade players. He is native to Las Vegas and has strong ties to our community, which serves as a benefit to our student-athletes.  


Director of Operations: Al Valdez

Coach Al kicks off his 25th year as a Trailblazer this season. He oversees all day-to-day operations of the Durango Basketball Program year-round. His dedication to Durango High School is unparalleled.


Academic Coach: Mrs. Green

Mrs. Green enters her ninth season with the Trailblazers. She monitors player’s academic progress and standards, and assists with all fundraising activities


Statistician: Ed Craw

Coach Craw enters his 25th year as a Trailblazer. He maintains, evaluates, and tracks all statistical data for our team. 


Strength & Conditioning Coach: Jermaine Seagears of Work or Don't Eat

Coach Seagears kicks off his fourth year as an assistant Coach and our Performance Trainer. As a former Divsion-1 student-athlete and college graduate from the University of Texas-Pan American, he prepares our team for competition on and off the court. He is the founder of Work or Don't Eat, a motivational, sports performance training and apparel brand that emphasizes inspiring athletes to embody hard work in sports and in life. Coach Seagears is also a NCAA Certified Basketball Scout and Recruiting Analyst for WODE Scouts and several other publications.
